Yogurt Starter Recipe
Homemade Yogurt with our Probiotic Yogurt Starter
- Heat 2 liters of milk in a saucepan to approximately 82°C. We recommend using whole milk for an extra creamy yogurt, although lower-fat milk may also be used if preferred. Heat the milk slowly and do not allow it to boil.
- Maintain the milk at approximately 82°C for 5 minutes.
- Remove the saucepan from the heat and allow the milk to cool to approximately 43°C.
- Place 1–2 teaspoons of Natren Probiotic Yogurt Starter into a separate container.
- Add approximately 30 ml of the warm milk to the powder and stir until a smooth paste forms.
- Gradually add more milk, stirring thoroughly after each addition to ensure the mixture is smooth and free of lumps. Once all of the milk has been incorporated, cover the container.
- Allow the covered mixture to rest in a warm location for approximately 8 hours. If your oven has a pilot light or an interior light that provides gentle warmth, place the covered container inside with the oven turned off. Alternatively, wrap the container in a thick towel to help retain the heat.
- After 8 hours, your yogurt is ready to enjoy. Homemade yogurt will keep in the refrigerator for at least one week.
