Yogurt Starter Recipe

Homemade Yogurt with our Probiotic Yogurt Starter

  1. Heat 2 liters of milk in a saucepan to approximately 82°C. We recommend using whole milk for an extra creamy yogurt, although lower-fat milk may also be used if preferred. Heat the milk slowly and do not allow it to boil.
  2. Maintain the milk at approximately 82°C for 5 minutes.
  3. Remove the saucepan from the heat and allow the milk to cool to approximately 43°C.
  4. Place 1–2 teaspoons of Natren Probiotic Yogurt Starter into a separate container.
  5. Add approximately 30 ml of the warm milk to the powder and stir until a smooth paste forms.
  6. Gradually add more milk, stirring thoroughly after each addition to ensure the mixture is smooth and free of lumps. Once all of the milk has been incorporated, cover the container.
  7. Allow the covered mixture to rest in a warm location for approximately 8 hours. If your oven has a pilot light or an interior light that provides gentle warmth, place the covered container inside with the oven turned off. Alternatively, wrap the container in a thick towel to help retain the heat.
  8. After 8 hours, your yogurt is ready to enjoy. Homemade yogurt will keep in the refrigerator for at least one week.
